1. Where are you based?
I live and work in Shetland, a wild and windswept archipelago in the North Sea.
2. What locations do you write for?
I work remotely, which means I can take off on a sun-drenched safari for the day while wrapped up in my winter woollies at home – and still make it to nursery in time to pick up my daughter.
Imaginary travel is a huge perk of the job for me – though I can write on location if you’re willing to pay my fare!
3. Do you meet clients face to face or virtually?
If you don’t live in Shetland, we’ll be meeting virtually – unless you fancy an invigorating mini-break? I’m happy to communicate whichever way you prefer though: WhatsApp, Zoom or a good ole-fashioned telephone call.
4. Why doesn’t your website have fixed prices?
Because every job is different, and I’ll need to find out what you need before suggesting a price. Once I’ve sent you my quote, there’ll be no hard feelings on my part if you choose not to take me up on it.
5. Will you copy edit something I’ve written?
Yes, I can do. Send me your draft, and I’ll send you a quote based on how long I reckon it’ll take me.
6. How quickly can you turn stuff around?
That depends on the size of the project. My services are in high demand, but once we’ve got the ball rolling, I’ll do my best to meet your schedule. And you’ll find I’m great at keeping in touch to let you know how the work is progressing.
7. What format will you submit the copy in?
I usually use Word, but I’m open to other suggestions. And if you’d like me to make the changes directly onto your website, I can do that too.
8. Why do I need your help when I’ve got AI?
AI certainly has its uses (it’s great for generating ideas!) but if you’re relying on it to bash out your copy for you, don’t expect to be overwhelmed by bookings any time soon.
The thing is, AI is great at scraping the internet and putting together grammatically correct text fast. But what it comes up with is so unlike how real people speak that your customers will soon smell a big, robotic rat.
Plus, AI doesn’t do originality. You, on the other hand, have a lifetime of knowledge and experience of your destination. I can help get this all out and into words that will have customers queuing up to book your services. And THAT is something AI cannot do.
